Oh, to be a celebrity. A life of luxury: fame, fortune, a whole team of  personal shoppers. Our stars pride themselves on their impeccable fashion sense, yet when it comes to tattoos, celebrities can drop some real clangers.  Each week the tabloids seem to have a new celebrity tattoo gone wrong; Rhianna, Kerry Catona, Cheryl Cole. If even A list celebrities aren’t immune to tattoo disasters, then how many average people suffer a tattoo gone wrong? We decided to take a closer look.

Celebrity Love Tattoos Gone Wrong

The most common celebrity tattoo disasters are because of love. For most people, the course of love doesn’t run smooth. Celebrities living in the media spotlight often have dramatic, rollercoaster love lives that have us on the edge of our seats. A tiny percentage of celebrity marriages last forever – so how do many celebrities choose to celebrate their love? A permanent tattoo!

Jordon’s Tattoo Nightmare

For years, Katie Price sported a tattoo of Pete Andre’s name – a loud and proud declaration of their everlasting commitment. Yeah. Except, when the two of them had one of the most bitter break ups in the history of the tabloid press, Katie rushed to the studio for a cover up.

Paris Hilton and her Tattoo Disaster

Tattoo removal was the talk of the tabloids after Paris, the A list hotel heiress made the classic mistake having her lovers name – Nick Carter- tattooed on her bum cheek. Months later, after a massive bust up, she checked back in to have it removed. Never had the job of tattoo artist seemed more appealing – studios across the UK were swamped with applications from teenage boys!

Johnny Depp’s Classic Tattoo Cover Up

Perhaps the most infamous tattoo cover up is that of Johnny Depp’s ‘Winona Forever’ tattoo – inked in tribute of his whirlwind romance to actress Winona Rider. When they split, Johnny had it changed to ‘Wino Forever’. This clever cover up was perfectly suited to Johnny Depp and his rock and roll image – and became one of the world’s most famous tattoos.

Celebrity Tattoos in Bad Taste

Britney Spears

Britney Spears has been ridiculed in the press for her bad taste in tattoos – pink furry dice are bad enough on a rear view mirror, let along on your naked flesh.

Tommy Lee

Famously had a swastika removed from his arm after accidently exposing it during a punch up. The star rushed to the tattoo removal clinic, amidst fears that it could do even more damage to his career than his albums.

Nearly 100,000 tattoos are removed each year. The high price of removal means that many more people are suffering in silence with a tattoo gone wrong. A tattoo disaster can have long term consequences on your image, health, and self esteem.

By planning ahead, choosing a reputable studio, and making important tattoo decisions when you are sober, (and not in the honeymoon phase of a relationship!) you can reduce the risks. Some tattoo accidents are unavoidable, caused by negligence on the tattoo parlour, or a bad tattoo artist. In this case, it may be able to claim for personal injury compensation, and experts recommend reporting unsafe practice to the police.
